Pet Park at Gachibowli: A First in India

A scientifically designed pet park established under the leadership of IAS officer HariChandana.

Key Features

  • Purpose-Built Design: Located on a 1.2–1.3 acre plot near the Radisson Hotel in Gachibowli, the park features separate areas for small and large dogs, agility training equipment, a splash pool, a veterinary clinic, and shaded seating for owners. It also includes an amphitheater for events and bone-shaped benches.
  • Certified Standards: Certified by the Kennel Club of India, developed to meet international standards in 2018. Project cost: ₹1.1 crore.
  • Inclusive Infrastructure: Accessibility features for people with disabilities and their assistance dogs. Professional trainers are available, and entry fees are minimal. Plans included a pet hotel and store.
  • Administrative Leadership: HariChandana, Zonal Commissioner at GHMC during development, also known for initiatives in lake restoration, plastic recycling, and sustainable projects.

Community Impact

  • Promotes Animal Welfare: A secure space for dogs to socialize, exercise, and stay healthy.
  • Revives Public Spaces: Converted from a former dump yard into a green, usable public space.
  • Encourages Community Interaction: Helps pet owners connect and build community.
  • Sets a Model for Other Cities: Inspired similar parks in Bengaluru and Noida.
