Aarunya: Empowering Weavers and Artisans in Narayanpet

A grassroots initiative led by IAS officer HariChandana to revive handlooms and rural livelihoods.

Aarunya, launched under the leadership of IAS officer HariChandana, focuses on strengthening the livelihoods of local weavers and artisans in Narayanpet. The initiative not only preserves traditional handloom and craft practices but also builds market access for artisans at regional and national levels.

Key Contributions

  • Support for Women Artisans: Initiated during the COVID-19 lockdown with a small group of around 10 women, Aarunya expanded by offering skill development in Kalamkari art, block printing, and other techniques.
  • Online Market Access: In partnership with Flipkart Samarth (May 2022), Aarunya provided artisans the ability to sell products like sarees, clay jewelry, handicrafts, and fig jam online. The initiative also received training and support from NABARD.
  • Local Branding and Recognition: Aarunya has become a recognized name representing Narayanpet’s unique handloom identity. It serves as a model for sustainable, artisan-led rural entrepreneurship.

Note on Global Reach

Claims regarding international product sales should be supported by export records or third-party verifications to enhance transparency and credibility.
