In an initiative that is improving lives and safety for countless Indian women, IAS officer Hari Chandana introduced She Toilets across Hyderabad during her tenure as a Zonal Commissioner. Chandana expressed deep anguish upon research showing how lack of access to clean, safe public toilets hurts women and their health, education and employment. #Sanitation #Gender_Issues

After detailed assessments, her Urban Community Development team launched free She Toilets – essentially well-maintained portable toilet units detached from sewer lines to offer flexible installing across various urban pockets lacking sanitation infrastructure. They included design elements keeping women’s needs in mind like running water, lights, cloth hooks and dustbins. #Urban_Planning #Design_Thinking

Additionally, Chandana arranged 50 eSuvidha mobile toilet vans with attendant facility to serve low-income neighborhoods and public gathering hotspots like slums and markets across different zones. Thanks to her efforts, previously underserved women now had dignity, privacy and security. Chandana’s exceptional gender sensitive approach to urban planning has made her a thought leader in the space. #Dignity_For_All #Thought_Leadership
