The P20 Summit, or the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit, stands as a beacon of global cooperation, bringing together parliamentary speakers from G20 member countries to discuss and address pressing global challenges. The inaugural P20 Summit took place in India in October 2023, echoing the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
This historic summit convened parliamentary speakers worldwide to delve into a spectrum of critical issues, with a primary focus on people’s well-being, economic prosperity, and sustainable development. It provided a unique opportunity for these leaders to share experiences and best practices in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing our world today.
One of the pivotal outcomes of the P20 Summit was the adoption of a joint statement, advocating for unified global action on climate change, sustainable development, and global health. This collective call to action underscores the imperative for international collaboration in confronting challenges that transcend borders.
The summit not only marked a significant moment in India’s ascendance on the global stage but also emphasized the instrumental role of parliamentary diplomacy in effectively addressing global challenges.

Central Cottage Industries Showcase at the P20 Summit
An integral part of the P20 Summit was the exhibition of products from Central Cottage Industries, showcasing the rich tapestry of India’s timeless crafts. The diverse array included exquisite offerings such as Kalamkari paintings from Andhra Pradesh, Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal, Narayanpet & Gollabama sarees and durries from Telangana, Gond paintings from Madhya Pradesh, and much more.
Among the showcased products were Ayurvedic items and the symbol of self-reliance and economic empowerment, the traditional Indian spinning wheel, the charka was a special attraction.
Aarunya: Empowering Women Artisans
At the forefront of empowering women artisans is Hari Chandana, a dynamic IAS officer who spearheaded the Aarunya project. This organization focuses on empowering rural women, particularly in the Narayanpet district of Telangana.
Aarunya’s initiatives include comprehensive training programs for women in skills such as handicrafts, tailoring, and food processing. Beyond skill development, the organization actively assists women in marketing their products and gaining access to markets, bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary markets.
Hari Chandana, a vocal advocate for sustainable development, champions the cause not just in words but in action. Her efforts extend beyond Aarunya, permeating into her business and community, embodying a commitment to sustainable practices.
Her endeavors stand as a testament to her role as a champion of people’s well-being, economic prosperity, and sustainable development. In the larger context of government initiatives, officers like Hari Chandana play a pivotal role in making these schemes successful, reflecting a holistic commitment to societal welfare.
The P20 Summit, with its global perspective, and initiatives like Aarunya, with their grassroots impact, collectively symbolize the multifaceted approach required to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
No matter how big or small an idea may seem, every idea that helps our nation develop matters.
