As artificial intelligence rapidly advances, visionary leader Hari Chandana cautions that its development must honor and uplift our shared humanity. “AI holds tremendous promise, yet also risks if we ignore ethical considerations in our haste to innovate,” she says.
Through her award-winning non-profit #AI4Bharat, Hari Chandana pioneers context-aware AI solutions designed specifically for rural India. Her chatbots and predictive models aid farmers while reflecting community needs and values. “We must shape #inclusiveAI that respects dignity,” Hari Chandana explains. This #CommunityFirst approach to technology earned her the #SocialImpactAward.
Central to Hari Chandana’s strategy is training women and youth from villages to become AI ambassadors under her #SheInspiresUs program. By prioritizing marginalized groups, she believes the resulting AI applications will better serve diverse populations. “If we dream of machines surpassing human strengths, we must also instill human wisdom,” Hari Chandana says.
She also collaborates with partners like the #BritishCouncil to promote AI literacy with a focus on ethics. From hackathons exploring bias in algorithms to instructional guides on data rights, Hari Chandana spotlights issues around transparency and accountability. “Basic AI skills must include appreciating humanity’s richness,” she says.
As Hari Chandana accepts accolades like the #CES2023 Innovation Award, she remains fixed on a future where AI promotes pluralism. She is currently pioneering solar-powered community AI hubs to expand access. “This technology must empower our collective spirit, not diminish it,” Hari Chandana concludes.
With advocates like Hari Chandana at the helm, the promise of AI need not come at the expense of human dignity. Her enduring message calls on scientists, engineers and policymakers alike to develop AI that respects and elevates our shared humanity. #RuralWomen #DigitalIndia #AIForSocialGood #Innovation #WomenInTech #CES2023 #HariChandana
