Running from October 26th to November 9th, the Games have drawn over 10,000 athletes from every corner of the country to compete across an impressive array of 43 sports disciplines at 28 venues.
Addressing a jubilant gathering, Prime Minister Modi expressed his excitement as the “Mahakumbh of Indian Sports” descended upon Goa. The atmosphere, he described, was saturated with colors, waves, enthusiasm, and adventure. “There’s nothing like the aura of Goa,” the Prime Minister emphasized, acknowledging the state’s unique and infectious spirit.
The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the people of Goa, highlighting the state’s significant contribution to the country’s sporting legacy, particularly its passion for football. Hosting the National Games in sports-loving Goa was described as an energizing prospect in itself.
Prime Minister Modi underscored the National Games occurring at a time when India is reaching unprecedented heights in global sports. Citing achievements in the Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and the World University Games, he emphasized that India’s recent success is a massive inspiration for the nation’s young sports enthusiasts.
Reflecting on the journey post-2014, the Prime Minister narrated the transformative changes in India’s sports infrastructure, selection processes, financial assistance schemes, and societal mindset. The roadmap, he unveiled, is geared from talent discovery through initiatives like Khelo India to preparing athletes for Olympic glory via the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
The Prime Minister proudly declared that India’s recent achievements in various domains, not just in sports, demonstrate an unparalleled speed and scale that is hard to match. He pointed to the remarkable progress made in the past 30 days, covering diverse sectors from technology to infrastructure and social initiatives.
Expressing India’s resolve and aspirations, Prime Minister Modi announced India’s readiness to host the Youth Olympics in 2030 and the Olympics in 2036. He assured that this aspiration is grounded in solid reasons, projecting India’s economic and infrastructural advancements by 2036.
The Prime Minister introduced ‘MY Bharat,’ a new platform aimed at connecting the youth with each other and with the schemes of the country. This, he emphasized, will turn India’s Yuva Shakti into the Yuva Shakti of Viksit Bharat.
Recognizing Goa as the land of celebrations, the Prime Minister praised the preparations made by the Goa government and its people for organizing the National Games. The created sports infrastructure, he foresaw, will benefit the youth of Goa for decades and contribute to the organization of national and international sports events.
